About The Position

The Medical Assistant-Registered (MA-R) works under the delegation of a licensed practitioner (e.g., RN, APC, MD/DO) to perform duties as directed to assist in providing patient care to assigned patients. This role involves performing medical tasks as outlined on the current Healthcare Practitioner Endorsement, maintaining medication and immunization records, screening and following up on test results, performing diagnostic testing and electrocardiography, conducting waived laboratory testing, administering eye drops, topical ointments, and vaccines, and administering medications (including intramuscular injections) according to written orders from a Healthcare Practitioner. The MA-R is responsible for maintaining and submitting updated Healthcare Practitioner Endorsements to the Washington State Department of Health and Human Resources.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Graduate of accredited school for medical assistants, or an equivalent combination of coursework, experience/training.
  • 1 year of medical assistant experience in a clinic setting.
  • Submission of the Medical Assistant – Registered Healthcare Practitioner Endorsement with the Washington Department of Health within 7 days of the start date.
  • Copy of Healthcare Practitioner Endorsement to Human Resources.
  • Active Washington Medical Assistant Registration within 60 days of hire.
  • Copy of written verification the endorsement is accepted and active with the Washington State Department of Health to Human Resources.
  • Completion of all assigned unit/department specific checklists, including applicable CLIA competencies, supervised by a Healthcare Practitioner within 60 days of hire.
  • Copy of all checklists and competencies to Human Resources.
  • Current BLS certification required.

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate competency and perform only the medical tasks listed on the current Healthcare Practitioner Endorsement under the supervision of a healthcare practitioner.
  • Perform duties delegated by and under the supervision of a healthcare practitioner in accordance with RCW 18.360.050 (4).
  • Maintain medication and immunization records.
  • Screen and follow up on test results as directed by a health care practitioner.
  • Perform diagnostic testing and electrocardiography.
  • Conduct waived laboratory testing under the federal clinical laboratory improvement amendments.
  • Administer eye drops, topical ointments, and vaccines, including combination or multidose vaccines.
  • Administer medication according to a written order from the Healthcare Practitioner for drugs that are administered only by unit or single dosage, or by a dosage calculated and verified by a health care practitioner.
  • Administer medication for intramuscular injections.
  • Administer intramuscular injections for diagnostic or therapeutic agents under the immediate supervision of the Healthcare Practitioner only minimum established standards are met.
  • Complete and submit an updated Healthcare Practitioner Endorsement to the Washington State Department of Health within 30 days of any changes made to delegated duties or supervision of a healthcare practitioner.
  • Send a copy of any updated Healthcare Practitioner Endorsement as well as written verification the endorsement is accepted and active with the Washington State Department of Health to Human Resources.
  • Complete and submit the Medical Assistant – Registered Healthcare Practitioner Endorsement with the Washington Department of Health within 7 days of the start date.
  • Submit a copy of the Healthcare Practitioner Endorsement to Human Resources.

  • Submit a copy of written verification the endorsement is accepted and active with the Washington State Department of Health to Human Resources.
