The Medical Assistant controls patient flow for providers, obtains and documents patient vitals, and performs other patient care and clerical duties. This role involves greeting and escorting patients, reviewing charts for necessary reports and results, obtaining chief complaints and vital signs, ensuring exam rooms are properly supplied, and assisting providers with examinations and procedures. The Medical Assistant will also assist with biopsy cases, start IVs, draw blood and prepare specimens, manage and administer medications within their scope of practice, document all activities in the medical record, communicate provider advice to patients, and adhere to safety and confidentiality policies. They will also phone in prescriptions and provide results as directed by the provider, and assist with scheduling future appointments. The Medical Assistant is not authorized to interpret reports or results or independently dispense medical advice.
