The Medical Assistant controls patient flow for providers, obtains and documents patient vitals, and performs other patient care and clerical duties. This role involves greeting and escorting patients, reviewing charts for necessary reports and results, obtaining and documenting patient chief complaints and vital signs, ensuring exam rooms are properly supplied, and assisting providers with examinations and procedures. The Medical Assistant will also assist with biopsy cases, start IVs, draw blood and prepare specimens, manage and administer medications within the scope of practice, and document all activities in the medical record. Communication with patients regarding provider advice and instructions, adherence to safety and confidentiality policies, and assisting with future appointment scheduling are also key responsibilities. The Medical Assistant is not authorized to interpret reports or results or independently dispense medical advice.
