The Medical Assistant controls patient flow for providers, obtains and documents patient vitals, and performs other patient care and clerical duties. This role involves greeting and escorting patients, reviewing charts, obtaining chief complaints and vitals, ensuring exam rooms are supplied, reviewing patient history forms, assisting providers with examinations and procedures, assisting with biopsy cases, starting IVs, drawing blood and preparing specimens, managing and administering medications, documenting all activities in the medical record, communicating with patients regarding provider advice, adhering to safety and confidentiality policies, phoning in prescriptions, providing results as directed by the provider, and assisting with scheduling future appointments. The Medical Assistant is not authorized to interpret reports or results or independently dispense medical advice to patients. Other duties may be assigned.
