About The Position

This Medical Assistant PRN position is for the Ear, Nose & Throat Clinic at Vanderbilt University Medical Center (VUMC). VUMC is a leading institution in Nashville, Tennessee, focused on patient care, education, and research. The role involves supporting the licensed healthcare team by managing clinic patient flow, gathering patient screening data, and assisting with patient education and communication. The Medical Assistant will help organize and manage clinic operations, maintain supplies and equipment, identify patient healthcare needs, and perform/assist with procedures. This position requires clinical documentation, basic clinical competencies such as taking vital signs and specimen collection, and knowledge of the environment of care. The role also involves fundamental awareness of planning and organizing tasks to meet deadlines and manage assignments.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an approved discipline specific program
  • Relevant Work Experience
  • Less than 1 year of experience
  • Clinical Patient Documentation (Fundamental Awareness)
  • Clinical Competencies (Novice): Demonstrates sufficient fundamental proficiency to assist and perform clinical care including but not limited to vital signs, phlebotomy, specimen collection, medication administration and point of care testing as directed by unit standards.
  • Environment of Care (Novice): Demonstrates sufficient fundamental proficiency with set up and maintenance of patient exam room, supplies and equipment.
  • Planning & Organizing (Fundamental Awareness): Demonstrates ability to anticipate basic resource needs, identify discrete tasks, set priorities, define dependencies, schedule activities, meet deadlines, and organize work for own assignments and responsibilities. Appropriately matches equipment, and capital resources to task demands. Prepares and presents clear and accurate status reports on projects and assignments.

Responsibilities
