About The Position

This full-time position at Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center's IV Therapy department focuses heavily on administrative tasks, making it ideal for a Medical Assistant who enjoys administrative work but is also willing to provide patient care as needed. Requirements

  • Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant Program
  • 2+ years of experience as a Medical Assistant
  • 2-3 years of customer service experience in a high volume, multiple task, high stress environment
  • Experience handling difficult callers, customers, and patients
  • Basic knowledge of managed care and commercial insurance
  • Basic knowledge of medical terminology and billing and coding practices
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills
  • Excellent ability to establish and maintain effective personal relationships
  • Comprehensive ability to conceptualize and follow office policies and procedures
  • Ability to handle stressful situations
  • Able to function in a high-volume, multiple task environment producing quality work
  • Able to work independently and problem solve
  • Strong interpersonal and telephone communication skills
  • Solid PC skills
  • Working knowledge of automated appointment scheduling
  • Current CPR Certification
  • Ability to lift up to 35 pounds without assistance (for patient lifts of over 35 pounds, or when patient is unable to assist, patient handling equipment is expected to be used with at least one other associate)

Responsibilities

  • Answering incoming telephone calls and directing them appropriately.
  • Scheduling appointments, including walk-ins, following departmental policies and Revenue Cycle guidelines.
  • Verifying patient information, insurance eligibility, co-payments, deductibles, and outstanding balances.
  • Registering patients, collecting payments, and preparing medical charts.
  • Performing initial patient work-ups, including taking vital signs.
  • Assisting physicians with patient examinations and treatments when needed.
  • Managing patient medical records, including filing and purging old files.
  • Ordering supplies, stocking inventory, and maintaining cleanliness of exam rooms.
  • Confirming patient appointments daily and rescheduling as needed.
  • Ensuring patient confidentiality at all times.
  • Sorting and distributing mail and mailing correspondence.
  • Creating new patient packets and charts.
  • Attending and completing all mandatory in-services and required training.
