About The Position

St. Luke's is seeking a dedicated Medical Assistant for their Orthopedics practice in Bethlehem. This role is crucial in supporting healthcare delivery within the practice, functioning as a professional member of the interdisciplinary team. The Medical Assistant is expected to consistently demonstrate and promote the organization's values while assisting in patient care.

Requirements

  • High School degree or equivalent required.
  • One year of clinical experience OR graduate of Medical Assistant program required.
  • Current or within 60 days of hire BLS/CPR certification through the American Red Cross or American Heart Association.

Nice To Haves

  • Two years of experience in a similar healthcare setting is preferred.
  • Customer service experience is strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct pre-visit planning by reviewing and updating patient medical records with recent test results and correspondence, and determining needed services by conferring with the provider.
  • Complete pre-charting of value-based components up to five days prior to the patient's appointment and send messages to the Care Team when warranted.
  • Prepare patients for examination by taking height, weight, and vital signs; updating medication lists, allergies, personal, family, and social history; inquiring about smoking status; and obtaining the reason for the visit.
  • Assist in capturing demographic information.
  • Provide other patient care services as needed, including keeping exam rooms clean, maintaining clinical supplies, cleaning and autoclaving instruments, and administering injections or immunizations within State guidelines.
  • Communicate and coordinate with providers or the Care Team regarding hospital discharges, Emergency Department visits, consulting physicians, community resources, disease management, patient self-management, patient and/or family education on chronic conditions, labs, testing, and specialist visits.
  • Actively participate in department activities, attend meetings, and contribute to problem-solving and analysis of current procedures.
  • Dispose of bio-hazardous waste and regular waste per practice protocol.
  • Maintain vaccine temperature logs, manage inventory, and order medical supplies (e.g., vaccines, medications), dispose of expired sample medications, and stock rooms to set par levels.
  • Perform administrative tasks such as check-in/check-out functions, and office opening/closing procedures.
  • Bring suggestions for improvement to the attention of Practice Managers and Providers.
  • Actively participate in maintaining and/or improving quality improvement initiatives.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
