About The Position

This is a full-time, benefitted position at Scripps Clinic Torrey Pines, working Monday through Friday. The schedule varies slightly throughout the week. Overtime opportunities are available and may be required as needed. Scripps Health offers a supportive environment with opportunities for professional development and career growth. The Orthopedic Surgery department at Scripps Health is highly recognized, and this role involves supporting the physician's practice by organizing and performing patient care services, collecting patient data, administering medications as directed, scheduling appointments, and documenting patient information in the electronic medical record. The position is predominantly back-office focused but may require assisting with front-office duties as needed.

Requirements

  • Completion of a formal Medical Assistant Program, or Medical Assistance Certification, or a minimum of two years of experience as a military corpsman
  • BLS certification for the Healthcare Provider by the American Heart Association (AHA)

Nice To Haves

  • One year of experience as a MA in an outpatient setting
  • Previous experience in Orthopedic Surgery

Responsibilities

  • Rooming patients
  • Checking vitals
  • Assisting with procedures
  • Clinic prep assisting with Provider specific protocols
  • Predominantly back-office responsibilities but is expected to help with front-office duties on an as-needed basis
  • Maintains a clean, organized, and safe environment
  • Organizes and performs patient care services that support the physician’s practice
  • Relaying instructions from the physician to the patient or authorized person
  • Collecting patient data in person and by phone
  • Documenting patient concerns, messages and care provided in the electronic medical record for the physician's review
  • Administering medications specifically directed by the physician
  • Scheduling of appointments and procedures
  • Complete and accurate message taking
  • Routing messages to the appropriate area for direction
  • Order and referral entry
  • Acquisition of pre-certifications
  • Setting up of cases in EPIC
  • Basic registration and updating of demographics
