About The Position

The Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) or Medical Assistant works under the direction of the Registered Nurse and physicians in a clinic setting. The role contributes to assessing individuals’ health status, participating in care-plan development, implementing appropriate care methods, and maintaining a safe and effective environment. This is a full-time position with Heartland Internal Medicine, Monday through Friday, in Camby, Indiana.

Requirements

High school diploma or GED.
Completion of a Medical Assisting program, or five years of medical assistant experience in lieu of the program.
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association.
One of the listed medical assistant credentials: RMA (American Allied Health); CMA (American Association of Medical Assistants); RMA (American Medical Technologists); RMA (American Registry of Medical Assistants); NRCMA (National Association for Health Professionals); NCMA (National Center for Competency Testing); or CCMA (National Healthcare Association).
For the LPN pathway, a Practical Nursing License in the State of Indiana.

Responsibilities

Plan and manage patient care according to each patient’s needs in collaboration with the Physician and Registered Nurse.
Interview patients and record their medical histories.
Measure and record patients’ vital signs, including height, weight, temperature, blood pressure, pulse, or respiration.
Administer prescribed medications or start intravenous fluids, recording times and amounts in patients’ charts.
Observe patients, document and report changes in their conditions, and take necessary action, including in response to adverse reactions to medication or treatment.
Provide basic patient care or treatments, such as taking temperatures or blood pressures, dressing wounds, treating bedsores, giving enemas or douches, rubbing with alcohol, massaging, or performing catheterizations.
