About The Position

Christie Clinic's department of Oncology is seeking a full-time Medical Assistant (Sign-On Bonus Available) at the University clinic from Monday-Friday 8:00am-5:00pm, with no night or weekend requirements. Provide direct and indirect patient care in a coordinated effort as part of the healthcare team. Act as the conduit between providers, Coordinator, and staff. Will assist Administrative Coordinator in delegating tasks, negotiating workloads, assessing performance, and reporting on developments as well as performing his/her own assigned duties.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • CPR Certification

  • Previous health care experience
  • Certified Medical Assistant Program and/or graduation from an accredited program for medical assistants

Responsibilities

  • Prepare exam and treatment rooms with necessary instruments prior to appointment.
  • Clean and restock rooms at the end of the day.
  • Prepare for office visits according to department standards.
  • Maintain and update patient medical record upon visit including allergies, medications, etc. and enter into the electronic medical record.
  • Appropriate use of flag system per standard work.
  • Review and respond to the electronic medical record work list per department standard work.
  • Complete lab order entries and appropriately handle patient specimens (including communication to patient per department standard work), as needed.
  • Assists providers with procedures/surgery, as needed.
  • Assist in patient education relating to medication instructions, tests and procedures, wound care or any other necessary information pertaining to patient care.
  • Acts as a liaison between patients, providers, other team members in the department, other Christie Clinic departments, and external facilities, as needed.
  • Direct medical assistant and reception work daily
  • Address team member conflicts and concerns and provide feedback and coaching as necessary.
  • Maintain communication regarding operations and team member concerns with the department coordinator and/or clinical manager.
  • Facilitate new medical assistant and receptionist training.
  • Facilitate huddle in partnership with/absence of the department coordinator, as needed.
  • Assists administrative coordinator with department goal development, quality concerns/initiatives, and continuous improvement projects.
  • Assist with other leadership duties in the administrative coordinator’s absence.
  • Assist with policy/procedure and workflow development.
  • Perform related work as required.
