The Medical Assistant Oncology position is a part-time role within the Department of Oncology at Aurora St. Lukes Medical Center. The primary responsibilities include adhering to the Medical Assistant scope of practice, following all policies and procedures, and maintaining competency in patient care within the oncology specialty. The role involves performing rooming tasks such as taking vital signs, reconciling medications, reviewing medical history and allergies, and conducting screenings. Additionally, the Medical Assistant will assist providers with procedures, perform laboratory duties including venipuncture and specimen collection, and conduct Point of Care testing. The position also includes administering medications and vaccines, managing medication refills, insurance authorizations, patient messaging, ordering supplies, scheduling appointments, and processing referrals. Cross-training for duties relevant to the specialty or clinic practice is expected. Effective communication, teamwork, and maintaining a clean, well-stocked work environment are crucial. The role requires the ability to provide age-appropriate patient care, demonstrating knowledge of growth and development principles.
