About The Position

Sentara Obstetrics, Gynecology & Midwifery Specialists Family is seeking a Certified Medical Assistant in Elizabeth City, NC. This is a full-time position, Monday through Friday, 40 hours per week. The Certified Medical Assistant performs patient care and administrative/clerical related tasks and procedures based on training, education, and competency evaluations, and as delegated by and under the direction/supervision of the Physician, Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant (NP/PA), Registered Nurse (RN), or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN). The role involves providing a safe environment for patients, visitors, and employees, and performing patient care tasks and procedures as well as administrative duties. The Medical Assistant must demonstrate the ability to assess situations, develop action plans, and evaluate outcomes. They should possess the specific skills and knowledge required for medical assistants, interact effectively with other departments, and adhere to all policies and procedures. Efficiency in daily operations and responsible utilization of resources are also key aspects of this role.

Requirements

• High School Diploma OR equivalency Required
• Must have one of the following on the first day of employment: Certified Medical Assistant, Registered Medical Assistant, Certified Clinical Medical Assistant, Certified EMT (EMT-B)
• BLS within 90 days of hire date
• Certification required at hire

Nice To Haves

• Phlebotomy experience Highly Preferred

Responsibilities

• Performs patient care and administrative/clerical related tasks and procedures based on training, education, and competency evaluations, and as delegated by and under the direction/supervision of the Physician, Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant (NP/PA), Registered Nurse (RN), or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN).
• Provides an environment for safety; identifies, addresses, and incorporates principles of safety for the patient, visitors, and employees.
• Provides patient care tasks and procedures and administrative duties (as appropriate).
• Demonstrates the ability to objectively assess a specific situation from a few viewpoints considers an array of alternatives, assists with the development of realistic action plans and evaluates outcomes.
• Demonstrates the development of the specific skills and knowledge required of medical assistants, effective inter-departmental interactions, and ability to follow department and system policies, procedures, and practices.
• Is productive and efficient in daily operations.
• Utilizes appropriate resources that are safe, effective, ethical, and fiscally responsible.
