About The Position

Sentara Obstetrics, Gynecology & Midwifery is seeking a Certified Medical Assistant in Elizabeth City, NC. This role involves performing patient care and administrative/clerical tasks and procedures under the supervision of a physician, NP/PA, RN, or LPN. The Certified Medical Assistant is responsible for maintaining a safe environment for patients, visitors, and employees, and for providing patient care and administrative duties as appropriate. The position requires the ability to objectively assess situations, develop action plans, and evaluate outcomes. The role also demands the development of specific skills and knowledge required of medical assistants, effective inter-departmental interactions, and adherence to department and system policies and procedures. Efficiency in daily operations and responsible utilization of resources are also key aspects of this role.

Requirements

• High School Diploma OR equivalency Required
• Certified Medical Assistant OR Registered Medical Assistant OR Certified Clinical Medical Assistant OR Certified EMT (EMT-B) on the first day of employment
• BLS within 90 days of hire date

Nice To Haves

• Phlebotomy experience Highly Preferred

Responsibilities

• Performs patient care and administrative/clerical related tasks and procedures based on training, education, and competency evaluations, and as delegated by and under the direction/supervision of the Physician, Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant (NP/PA), Registered Nurse (RN), or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN).
• Provides an environment for safety; identifies, addresses, and incorporates principles of safety for the patient, visitors, and employees.
• Provides patient care tasks and procedures and administrative duties (as appropriate).
• Demonstrates the ability to objectively assess a specific situation from a few viewpoints considers an array of alternatives, assists with the development of realistic action plans and evaluates outcomes.
• Demonstrates the development of the specific skills and knowledge required of medical assistants, effective inter-departmental interactions, and ability to follow department and system policies, procedures, and practices.
• Is productive and efficient in daily operations.
• Utilizes appropriate resources that are safe, effective, ethical, and fiscally responsible.
