Dignity Health Medical Group – Stockton, a service of Dignity Health Medical Foundation, is a multi-specialty clinic with three locations in Stockton, California, offering integrated care including primary care, cancer care, endocrinology, gastroenterology, and general surgery. As a Medical Assistant/Medical Office Representative at Dignity Health Medical Foundation clinics (now part of CommonSpirit Health), the role involves ensuring the smooth and efficient operation of the day for patients and the clinical team. Key responsibilities include proactively preparing patient charts, ensuring all information is up-to-date, and managing multiple patients daily depending on the number of on-site physicians. Requirements

  • High School Graduate General Studies or GED General Studies, upon hire
  • Satisfactory completion of formal Medical Assistant program pursuant to the Division of Allied Health Professions or military training that is equivalent to an accredited Medical Assistant program (determination by DHMF HR department in conjunction with the State Division of Allied Health), upon hire
  • Basic Life Support - CPR, upon hire

Nice To Haves

  • Less than 1 year 6 months experience in an outpatient setting as a Medical Assistant
  • Less than 1 year 6 months experience in an outpatient setting as a Medical Office Receptionist or an equivalent amount of experience in a high volume customer service role in another industry/environment working with referrals or scheduling surgeries
  • Experience in billing
  • Prior call center experience preferred
  • Experience with multi-line phones/ACD phones preferred

Responsibilities

  • Assisting in preparing patients for examinations or procedures
  • Assisting with procedures
  • Relaying instructions from the physician to a patient or authorized person
  • Collecting patient data
  • Administering medications specifically directed by the physician
  • Performing accurate vital sign measurements and documentation
  • Maintaining a clean, organized, and safe environment
  • Performing patient care services that support the physician / provider's practice under the clinical supervision of the Physician, Registered Nurse, Nurse Practitioner, Physician’s Assistant, or Licensed Vocational Nurse
  • Managing medical records, including charts and EMR
  • Communicating and documenting any patient concerns to physicians, physician’s assistants, or nurses
  • Working with physicians, insurance providers, and pharmacies to obtain authorizations for patient medication, including refills
  • Providing excellent customer service
  • Consistently demonstrating customer service expectations as outlined in the DHMF audit tools
  • Consistently making eye contact and smiling
  • Demonstrating active listening with a positive can-do attitude
  • Consistently being respectful, concerned, and showing empathy
  • Using scripted greeting: "Thank you for choosing _______ this is (your name) how can I help you"
  • Using scripted closing at every interaction: "Is there anything else I can do for you" over the phone and as patients leave the clinic
  • Proactively preparing patient charts, ensuring all information is obtained and up-to-date for those seen in the facility
