About The Position

MercyOne North Iowa is seeking a Clinic Nurse (LPN)/Medical Assistant for their Specialty Care Clinic. This role involves providing quality patient care and acting as a patient advocate. Responsibilities include escorting patients, documenting vital information, preparing exam rooms, assisting with exams and procedures, scheduling appointments and tests, educating patients on test preparation, completing charge tickets, administering medications safely, documenting medication administration, and maintaining positive working relationships with colleagues and other departments. The role also contributes to cost containment by managing supplies.

Requirements

  • LPN: Graduate of a school of nursing.
  • LPN: Current Iowa License as a Practical Nurse or Registered Nurse.
  • LPN: Must provide proof of Basic Life Support (BLS Healthcare Provider, American Heart Association; or American Red Cross, Professional Rescuer-LIVE class only) via current card prior to employment or within 60 days of hire and maintain current status.
  • LPN: Completes Mandatory Reporting: Child and Dependent Adult Abuse requirement within 6 months of hire and renews this requirement every 3 years.
  • Medical Assistant: A minimum of six months work experience in a health care facility performing duties relating to patient care is preferred.
  • Medical Assistant: Additional experience involving computer knowledge.
  • Medical Assistant: Graduate of an approved school for medical assistant required.
  • Medical Assistant: Credentialed as a medical assistant required (CMA, RMA, NCMA).
  • Medical Assistant: CCMA certification is accepted with successful completion of a training program.

Responsibilities

  • Provide quality patient care and act as a patient advocate.
  • Escort patients to exam rooms.
  • Obtain and document patient data including chief complaint, allergies, vital signs, pain level, medication history, and fall risk.
  • Obtain and review basic health history information.
  • Anticipate and prepare exam rooms with necessary equipment and supplies.
  • Assist with exams and procedures as requested.
  • Assist in scheduling patient appointments, lab/diagnostic tests, and referrals.
  • Review written test preparation handouts with patients and document in the medical record.
  • Refer patients to a provider/registered nurse if education is required.
  • Complete charge tickets and submit charges in an electronic health record, including obtaining the diagnosis from the provider and identifying billable supplies and services.
  • Obtain ABN per e-LMRP as necessary.
  • Administer medications and treatments with an emphasis on patient safety, documenting administration.
  • Maintain competency in administering medications via various routes (IM, SQ, ID, oral, inhalation, ocular, optic, topical, sublingual, and nasal).
  • Document notification/follow-up of phone messages under the direct supervision of a provider.
  • Maintain a positive working relationship with co-workers, medical staff, and personnel of other departments, and assist customers as necessary.
  • Assist in cost containment by maintaining an adequate quantity of supplies in work stations and exam/procedure rooms.
