About The Position

The Medical Assistant (MA) II - OB/GYN role is a full-time position within the AMG Chicago N Halsted - OB/GYN: Urogynecology department. This role requires flexibility in scheduling to support patient and clinic needs, with hours typically Monday-Friday, days. Specific daily start and end times vary, with potential for early starts. The position requires previous OB/GYN experience and bilingual Spanish is preferred. The pay range for this role is $22.90 - $34.35 per hour. To be considered, candidates must be an active CMA/CCMA/RMA and have prior OB/GYN experience.

Requirements

• Active CMA/CCMA/RMA certification.
• Previous OB/GYN experience.
• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program or equivalent (structured military training clinical in nature per DD214, or EMT in lieu of formal program for some divisions).
• For IL/WI Divisions: 2 years of verifiable full-time experience as a Medical Assistant within the last 5 years may be accepted in lieu of a formal program.
• Current American Heart Association (AHA) BLS certification required (or obtained within 45 days for some divisions).
• Recognized or certified as a CMA or RMA by specific national organizations (AAMA, NHA, NHCWA, NCCT, ARMA, AMT, NAHP, NRMA, CCMA, NCMA, CMAC, AMCA).
• Successful completion of Atrium Health’s competency assessment.
• Two years of experience in a clinical practice setting as a Medical Assistant.
• Ability to perform routine and complex technical skills, within the Medical Assistant scope of practice after demonstrated competency.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; ability to develop rapport and maintain positive, professional relationships with a variety of patients, team members and physicians.
• Proficient computer skills including keyboarding, navigation within a windows operating system, and use of electronic mail with exposure to electronic medical records systems.
• Demonstrates customer service skills that support a positive patient experience.
• Must sit, stand, walk, lift, squat, bend, twist, crawl, kneel, climb, and reach above shoulders throughout the workday.
• Ability to lift 35 pounds without assistance.
• Must have functional speech, vision, hearing, and touch with ability to use fine-hand manipulation skills.
• Will be exposed to mechanical, electrical, chemical, blood and body fluids.
• Will be required to wear protective clothing and equipment as needed.
• Operates all equipment necessary to perform the job.

• Successful completion of system approved program to become a primary trainer for new teammates (Greater Charlotte).
• Pediatric Emergency Assessment, Recognition, and Stabilization (PEARS) may be required within 1 year in select areas (Wake Forest).

Responsibilities

• Adheres to Medical Assistant scope of practice, follows all policies and procedures, and maintains training and competency based on area of specialty when providing patient care.
• Performs rooming/visit tasks such as vital signs, medication reconciliation, medical history, health maintenance, allergy review, and screenings (depression, suicide, falls, social drivers of health, etc.).
• Assists provider with or performs procedures as ordered.
• Performs lab related duties such as venipuncture, specimen collection/labeling/packing, preparation of lab orders/requisitions, and results tracking.
• Point of Care testing (POCT) per standing order/provider order.
• Completes Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA) approved waived laboratory tests and practice-specific diagnostic testing in adherence to CLIA standards.
• Administers medications and vaccines safely following the rights of medication administration.
• Performs other duties as assigned such as medication refills, insurance authorizations, safety/regulatory log completion, patient messaging, medication/supply ordering, appointment scheduling, and referrals.
• Demonstrates effective and timely communication, teamwork, and appropriate escalation.
• Maintains a clean work environment ensuring instruments and equipment are cleaned appropriately.
• Ensures equipment and supplies are in working order, and areas are appropriately stocked.
• May assist with training and onboarding of other teammates.
• May serve as a role champion or on a committee.
• Must be able to demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served.
• Must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his/her age-specific needs, and to provide the care needed as described in the department's policies and procedures.
