About The Position

The Medical Assistant Lead is responsible for performing a variety of duties in the medical practice. As a Medical Assistant Lead, you will be responsible for both the clinical and administrative areas including assisting physicians with patient care and handling clerical, environmental, and organizational tasks. You will provide information to patients so they may fully utilize and benefit from the clinical service.

Requirements

  • Active and unrestricted CMA or RMA.
  • CPR/BLS Healthcare Provider Certification within 90 days of employment.
  • 5+ years of experience working within a healthcare setting.

  • Must complete required CEUs for licensure/certification.
  • Must maintain current BLS certification.
  • EMR and Clinical competencies completed and signed as assigned.
  • Precept students and new employees.
  • Participate in annual clinical checkoffs for new and annual trainings.
  • Help to revise and implement two clinical workflows or procedures.
  • Must complete at least 4 educational sessions.
  • Must complete 24 CEUs annually.
  • Help to revise and implement 2 clinical workflow procedures using current Evidence Based Practice literature or research

Responsibilities

  • Processes incoming and outgoing calls/messages in a professional manner.
  • Performs patient intake, obtains necessary patient information to file and update patient records.
  • Ensures consents are reviewed and completed by clinician.
  • Performs pre-encounter prep prior to patients visit, including identifying open care gaps.
  • Supports and demonstrates effective and professional communication with patients, family members, visitors, and colleagues.
  • Gathers patient data through interview and observation.
  • Assists the clinician during medical treatments, examinations, and procedures.
  • Prepares patients for examination, performs and documents vital signs, and records patients' health history and medication reconciliation.
  • Arranges laboratory and/or other ancillary testing.
  • Performs duties and skills consistent with a trained certified medical assistant/registered medical assistant/nurse.
  • Prepares and sanitizes equipment, examination rooms and instruments.
  • Manages inventory of medical supplies and equips exam rooms with appropriate supplies.
  • Embraces and participates in quality initiatives, goal attainment, and collaborates on clinical process improvement activities.
  • Provides routine treatments and administers approved medication per clinician order within scope.
  • Documents patient data, treatments, procedures, and patient education per organizational policies.
  • Assists the clinician by acting as a liaison on behalf of the patient to schedule appointments; provides patient with scheduling information to obtain testing, and/or clinician consultation.
  • Maintains compliance with all policies and procedures.
  • Demonstrates competency in specific tasks and skills as defined annually.
  • Other duties as assigned.
