Medical Assistant - Imaging Services
About The Position
Performs routine clerical and clinical tasks within Imaging Services, assisting physicians and other licensed providers to provide cost-effective, quality patient care. Requirements
- Graduation from a recognized medical assistant program.
- One (1) year medical assisting experience in an ambulatory/clinical setting.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification accepted by the American Heart Association (AHA).
- Office Lab Assistant License within sixty (60) days of hire, except for incumbents assigned to the Outpatient Ortho Clinic and Imaging Services.
- Knowledge of Cardiopulmonary resuscitation.
- Knowledge of operation of general office equipment.
- Knowledge of radiation safety.
- Knowledge of imaging exams, interventional procedures.
- Knowledge of basic medical terminology.
- Knowledge of basic mathematics.
- Knowledge of medical equipment.
- Knowledge of universal precautions.
- Knowledge of referral processing, scheduling, data entry.
- Knowledge of software applications.
- Knowledge of department and hospital safety practices.
- Knowledge of patient rights.
- Knowledge of infection control practices and policies.
- Knowledge of handling, storage, use and disposal of hazardous materials.
- Knowledge of department and hospital emergency response policies and procedures.
- Knowledge of age specific patient care practices.
- Skill in procuring specimens.
- Skill in imaging exams.
- Skill in protocols for radiation safety.
- Skill in vaccination activities.
- Skill in injection and aseptic technique.
- Skill in performing noninvasive procedures ie EKG.
- Skill in processing Point of Care testing.
- Skill in supporting clinical team and patients to achieve annual wellness care and transitional care documentation.
- Skill in communicating with a wide variety of people from diverse socio-economic and ethnic backgrounds under stressful conditions.
- Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with all personnel contacted in the course of duties.
- Skill in efficient, effective and safe use of equipment.
- Mobility to work in a typical clinical setting and use standard equipment.
- Stamina to remain standing and/or walk for extended periods of time.
- Strength to examine and treat varied patients.
- Vision to read printed materials and a computer screen.
- Hearing and speech to communicate effectively in person and over the telephone.
- Strength and agility to exert up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
Nice To Haves
- A minimum of two (2) years of recent (within the past five (5) years), documented MA experience in a specialty area such as Radiology, Cardiology etc.
