About The Position

This role facilitates communication between the patient and the provider, ensuring efficient patient care. The Medical Assistant III is responsible for preparing patients for their visits, which includes rooming patients, documenting vital signs, reviewing intake paperwork, and managing electronic health records. The position also involves assisting providers with prescriptions and forms, maintaining exam room standards, and ensuring patient education is provided. A key aspect of this role is creating a positive patient experience while maintaining a HIPAA-compliant environment.

Requirements

High school diploma/GED.
Graduation from an accredited Medical Assistant training program as defined by state regulations.
7-10 years of experience in orthopedics, spine surgery, or pain management is preferred.
In lieu of experience, the employee must have graduated from a formal training program and have the CMA certificate with at least 7 years experience as a medical assistant; OR, is a licensed LPN with 5-7 years of experience and have the CMA certificate; OR, is grandfathered in as defined by State regulation and has at least 5-7 years of continuous experience and has the CMA certificate.
Must pass the MA competency exam within the first six months of employment.
Medical Assistant certificate of completion from an accredited program or LPN license.
Active Medical Assistant Certification is required (e.g., RMA, CMA, CCMA, NCMA).
Experience with office medical procedures and treatments.
Knowledge of insurance, managed care operations, EMR, and scheduling software.
Certification or additional training must meet the requirements for Meaningful use.
BLS certification required.
Specialty knowledge of the health care field.
Specialty knowledge of patient care in a clinic.
Specialty knowledge of back-office skills.
Specialty knowledge of patient confidentiality, state laws, HIPAA regulations, and medical records procedures.

Responsibilities

Facilitates communication between the patient and the provider during patient care.
Responsible for preparing the patient for visit with the provider, including rooming patients, obtaining and documenting vitals, reviewing intake paperwork, pulling up radiology images, removing dressings, procedure set-up, injection prep, and accurate data entry into EMR.
Completes tasks associated with Company initiatives such as PROs, Quality Payment Programs, etc.
Maintains exam room standards, including restocking, cleaning, and monitoring biohazard and sharps containers.
Assists the provider in preparing patient prescriptions and completing medical and patient forms (e.g., work release, FMLA).
Retrieves and responds to voicemails within 24 business hours and documents actions in EMR.
Prepares patient electronic charts for clinic visits prior to the date of service.
Verifies outstanding testing results, confirms patient appropriateness for the provider, and notes imaging, DME, or casting needs prior to the provider visit.
Scans clinical documents into EMR.
Prints clinic schedules on the morning of the date of service.
Ensures patient receives education as indicated by the provider.
Manages EMR desktops of assigned providers in a timely manner.
Acts as PTO Buddy per clinic plan.
Creates and promotes a positive patient experience.
Maintains HIPAA compliant environment.
Maintains clean workspace.
