About The Position

This role is for a Medical Assistant III with a focus on providing essential support in an orthopedic, vein, or pain management setting. The Medical Assistant will facilitate communication between patients and providers, prepare patients for visits, manage administrative tasks, maintain exam room standards, and ensure efficient patient care delivery. This position requires strong clinical and administrative skills, including EMR proficiency and adherence to patient confidentiality and safety protocols.

Requirements

  • High school diploma/GED.
  • Graduation from an accredited Medical Assistant training program as defined by state regulations.
  • Pass the MA competency exam within the first six months of employment.
  • Medical Assistant certificate of completion from an accredited program or LPN license.
  • Active Medical Assistant Certification such as Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) with proof of current membership from American Medical Technologists (AMT) or Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) with proof of current membership from American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA) or Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) with proof of current membership from National Health Career Association (NHA) (Test administered after 7/1/2017 only) or National Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA) with proof of current membership from National Certified Competency Testing (NCCT). Or per State regulations.
  • Experience with office medical procedures and treatments.
  • Knowledge of insurance, managed care operations, EMR, and scheduling software.
  • Certification or additional training must meet the requirements for Meaningful use.
  • BLS certification required.

Nice To Haves

  • 7-10 years of experience in orthopedics, spine surgery, or pain management is preferred.
  • In lieu of experience, the employee must have graduated from a formal training program and have the CMA certificate with at least 7 years experience as a medical assistant; OR, is a licensed LPN with 5-7 years of experience and have the CMA certificate; OR, is grandfathered in as defined by State regulation and has at least 5-7 years of continuous experience and has the CMA certificate.

Responsibilities

  • Facilitates communication between the patient and the provider during patient care by collecting and sharing pertinent information and acting on provider directives.
  • Prepares patients for visits, including rooming, documenting vitals, reviewing intake paperwork, pulling radiology images, removing dressings, setting up for procedures, preparing injections, and accurate data entry into EMR.
  • Completes tasks associated with Company initiatives such as PROs and Quality Payment Programs.
  • Maintains exam room standards by restocking and cleaning rooms and tables.
  • Monitors and replaces biohazard and sharps containers as needed.
  • Assists the provider in preparing patient prescriptions and completing medical and patient forms (e.g., work release, FMLA).
  • Retrieves and responds to voicemails within 24 business hours and documents actions in EMR.
  • Prepares patient electronic charts for clinic visits prior to the date of service.
  • Verifies outstanding testing results in EMR, confirms patient appropriateness for the provider, and notes necessary imaging, DME, or casting prior to the visit.
  • Scans clinical documents into EMR.
  • Prints clinic schedules on the morning of the date of service.
  • Ensures patients receive education as indicated by the provider.
  • Manages assigned providers' EMR desktops in a timely manner.
  • Acts as a PTO Buddy per clinic plan.
  • Creates and promotes a positive patient experience.
  • Maintains a HIPAA compliant environment.
  • Maintains a clean workspace.
