About The Position

Assists in the examination and treatment of patients by tracking patient information, documenting the medical record, assisting with in-office procedures and testing, administering medications and providing patient and caregiver education. Duties are performed under the oversight and direction of professional clinical staff and providers as outlined in the Clinical Support Staff Scope of Practice document. This role also involves precepting new Medical Assistants, assisting with ongoing training, updating procedure manuals, managing workflows, serving as a system superuser, performing designated responsibilities related to regulatory oversight of the Lab, representing the office at clinical leadership meetings, and serving as a resource for staff engaged in similar functions. The Medical Assistant III is expected to create a positive, professional, service-oriented work environment, work effectively as a team member, and maintain knowledge of and compliance with IHA standards, policies, and procedures. Confidentiality of patient and employee information is paramount, and the role requires efficient use of resources and ongoing professional development.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Successful completion of accredited/approved MA program and MA Externship, Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) program, Paramedic program or Certified Athletic Trainer.
  • Maintains current MA Re-Certification CEUs.
  • Valid CPR certification.
  • Certification as a Medical Assistant through one of the following certifying agencies: American Association of Medical Assistants (CMA), American Medical Technologists (RMA), National Center for Competency Testing (NCMA), National Healthcareer Association (CCMA), National Association of Health Professionals (NRCMA), American Medical Certification Association (CMAC).
  • 3+ years’ experience working as a credentialed MA with skills/education required from MA-II role.
  • Has attained required management sponsorship to advance to the MA III-Credentialed level.
  • Ability to perform all MA-II Essential Job Functions.
  • Demonstrated competency in obtaining accurate patient vital statistics (height, weight, blood pressure, temperature, etc.) and patient health history.
  • Proficient/knowledgeable in medical terminology.
  • Proficiency in operating a standard desktop and Windows-based computer system, including electronic medical records, email, e-learning, intranet, and computer navigation.
  • Ability to use other software as required.
  • Excellent communication skills in both written and verbal forms, including proper phone etiquette.
  • Ability to speak before groups of people, either in-person or virtually.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment; courteous and friendly demeanor.
  • Ability to work effectively with various levels of organizational members and diverse populations.
  • Ability to cross-train in other areas of practice in order to achieve smooth flow of all operations.
  • Good organizational and time management skills to effectively juggle multiple priorities, time constraints and ever-changing medical situations.
  • Ability to exercise sound judgement and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to perform mathematical calculations needed during the course of performing basic job duties, i.e.: calculating proper dosages for immunizations.
  • Knowledge of the compliance aspects of clinical care and patient privacy and best practices in medical office operations.
  • Ability to handle patient and organizational information in a confidential manner.
  • Successful completion of IHA competency-based program within introductory and training period.

Responsibilities

  • Assists provider with more complex patient care issues.
  • Serves as consistent MA preceptor for new and existing MAs, including onboarding per Preceptor Program Requirements.
  • Assists with ongoing training of existing staff, identifies skill gaps, and completes annual clinical proficiency assessments.
  • Updates procedure manual and creates and manages workflows.
  • Acts as a system superuser and relays information to the clinical team.
  • Performs designated responsibilities related to regulatory oversight of the Lab.
  • Represents office at respective clinical leadership meetings.
  • Serves as a resource for staff engaged in similar functions.
  • Performs all Essential Job Functions from Medical Assistant II job description.
  • Maintains proficiency on completed required activities within MA-Credentialed II position.
  • Monitors, organizes, stocks, prepares, and keeps exam rooms clean; maintains medical supply inventory in clinical areas.
  • Travels to other office/practice sites and meeting and training locations.
