This position prepares and maintains exam rooms, prepares charts, obtains reports and records; assists with patient flow and ensures the overall smooth running of the clinical office. The Medical Assistant II interacts directly with patients in a clinic setting and completes clinical tasks, which may include obtaining vital signs, conducting EKGs, completing phlebotomy, and verifying medications. They prepare for office hours by obtaining charts, scheduling tests, and preparing exam rooms. They may also assist with examinations, procedures, and lab tests, and may administer medications under the order of physicians or nurse practitioners, including vaccines and injections. This role involves directing patient flow, assisting with special procedures/treatments, and completing requisitions. They route phone messages, patient questions, and telephone communications to appropriate personnel. The Medical Assistant II assists with care coordination by calling patients with test results, scheduling appointments, assisting with return calls, scheduling surgeries, diagnostic procedures, and admissions, and monitoring new and return patient contacts. They complete necessary paperwork and documentation in a timely manner and answer basic questions from patients/families regarding treatments, diagnosis, and procedures. They monitor supply inventory, ensuring adequate supplies and equipment are available and compliant with regulations, and clean and stock exam rooms and sterilize instruments. This role maintains HIPAA compliance, skills/competencies, and participates in in-services, staff programs, continuing education, and cross-training programs according to established standards and WashU policies. They comply with OSHA, state, and federal regulatory sources/standards and participate in quality improvement activities to ensure appropriate clinical outcomes. Other duties as assigned.
