About The Position

The Medical Assistant II (MA) is responsible for maintaining a highly professional environment, ensuring a collaborative relationship with patients and physicians. The MA will assist with the non-clinical tasks required to ensure smooth patient access and flow. This includes but is not limited to scheduling patients for follow-up visits, imaging, and lab work; preparation of chart elements; checking vital signs; rooming patients; and assisting with procedures. The non-clinical responsibilities also include the pre-authorization process and acting as a liaison between providers and patients. The Medical Assistant will work collaboratively with staff to ensure all proper records are received and appropriate testing is completed prior to appointment/surgery dates, providing updates to staff and patients on tasks that could impact health, testing, and treatment options. They will ensure even patient flow and continuous communication within Hoag and referring physician offices. The role may require starting at different locations throughout the workweek or traveling to multiple sites. In Oncology and Specialty Clinics, the MA will follow clinic guidelines for handling instruments and equipment used in clinic procedures.

Requirements

  • High school graduate or equivalent GED
  • Graduate of a Medical Assistant Program OR equivalent medical back-office experience
  • Ability to anticipate provider needs/ critical thinking skills that come from experience
  • 4 years experience in Primary care (for HMG Primary Care)
  • 4 years' experience in Primary or Urgent Care (for Hoag Urgent Care)
  • 4 years' experience as a Medical Assistant (for Diabetes Center)
  • 2+ years of experience as a Medical Assistant (for Oncology/Gastro/Digestive/Pain Management Specialty Clinics)
  • 2 years OBGYN experience (for specific OCW and HSC locations)
  • Current BLS (AHA) Certification
  • National Certified Phlebotomy Technician (NCPT) or California specific CPT I (for Pain Management Center)

Responsibilities
