About The Position

ChristianaCare's Center for Surgical Optimization (CSO) is seeking a Medical Assistant II to prepare patients for surgery by managing co-morbidities and providing education for best outcomes post-surgery. The role is an integral part of the care team, greeting patients, obtaining medication history, labs, and EKGs, retrieving critical information, and scheduling appointments. The Medical Assistant II will assist clinicians in patient examination and treatment, promote patient and physician satisfaction through proactive patient access activities, and collaborate with physicians, patients, and interdepartmental staff to ensure seamless patient care delivery and appropriate fiscal management. Flexibility to cross-cover the Wilmington location is strongly preferred.

Requirements

  • High School Graduate or GED required
  • Graduate of a recognized Medical Assistant Program or hold current Medical Assistant Certification by a national organization accredited by the National Commission for Certifying Agencies (NCCA) or the American National Standards Institute (ANSI)
  • BLS certification
  • At least 2 years of progressively responsible clinical administrative experience required
  • 2 years’ experience as a Medical Assistant required

  • Associate degree in business/Medical related field preferred
  • Previous insurance or third-party experience is preferred
  • Flexibility to cross cover our Wilmington location is strongly preferred

Responsibilities

  • Assisting clinicians in patient examination and treatment
  • Promoting patient satisfaction through proactive patient access activities
  • Collaborating with physicians, patients, and interdepartmental staff to ensure seamless patient care delivery and fiscal management
  • Greeting and supporting patients
  • Recording vitals
  • Performing point of care testing, venipuncture, ECG, and specimen collection
  • Preparing treatment rooms with necessary supplies
  • Performing quality control on POCT equipment
  • Completing patient-specific paperwork
  • Handling patient call backs
  • Scheduling tests
  • Performing daily operational activities
  • Coordinating patient care activities with insurance companies, care managers, and physician office staff to minimize financial risk and maximize patient care delivery
