The Medical Assistant II plays a crucial role in patient care by adhering to the Medical Assistant scope of practice, following all policies and procedures, and maintaining competency. This role involves performing essential patient visit tasks such as taking vital signs, reconciling medications, documenting medical history, conducting health maintenance checks, reviewing allergies, and administering screenings for various health and social factors. The Medical Assistant II will also assist providers with procedures, manage laboratory duties including specimen collection and processing, perform Point of Care testing, and administer medications and vaccines safely. Additional responsibilities include medication refills, insurance authorizations, completing logs, patient messaging, ordering supplies, scheduling appointments, and managing referrals. Effective communication, teamwork, and appropriate escalation are key. The role also requires maintaining a clean work environment, ensuring equipment and supplies are functional and stocked, and may involve training and onboarding new teammates or serving on committees. A strong understanding of age-appropriate patient care is essential, including knowledge of growth and development principles and the ability to assess and interpret patient needs based on age-specific requirements.
