About The Position

Under direct supervision of a licensed independent practitioner, registered nurse, nurse manager/assistant nurse manager, or other licensed designee, this role functions as a member of the patient care team. The Medical Assistant II performs technical, patient care, and related clerical functions in a clinic setting by coordinating all elements of the patient visit. This position will support the Neurology Clinic patients, facilitating the smooth flow of patients through the clinic via interaction with patients, families, and staff.

Requirements

  • Certification OR registration as a Medical Assistant OR completion of a recognized one-year Medical Assistant Program, OR
  • Completion of a health care profession program with a curriculum incorporating elements of a Medical Assistant program including but not limited to pathophysiology, medical terminology, basic pharmacology and medication administration including dose calculation and psychology (include educational transcripts during application process)
  • Resume that clearly addresses how they meet the listed required and desired qualifications.
  • Copy of educational transcripts if not certified/registered as a Medical Assistant or if a Medical Assistant Program was not completed.
  • Self-disclose any conviction history.
  • Subject to a criminal background check and credential/education verification.

Responsibilities

  • Facilitate the smooth flow of patients through the clinic.
  • Assist in clinic with physical examination of patient and related treatments, including but not limited to patient history, medication records, allergies, and immunizations.
  • Manage internal and external medical records to ensure accurate and complete data is available for patient appointments.
  • Administer routine oral, rectal, or injectable medications not requiring a high level of skill or nursing judgment, provided the medical assistant is certified or has completed a formal accredited training program.
  • Perform routine laboratory tests such as urinalysis and blood work.
  • Perform patient care related to vital signs, reviewing medications, allergies, lab draws, setting up and assisting with minor procedures, in-clinic treatments, point of care testing, removing staples and/or sutures, assisting with dressing changes, administering immunizations as ordered.
  • Stock rooms with appropriate medical supplies and linens.
  • Provide psychological support to the patient and family based on assessed needs.
  • Attend and participate in staff meetings.
  • Identify vaccination needs for specific patient populations.
  • Perform related clerical tasks including answering phones and providing information to other departments.
  • Treat matters with confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA requirements.
  • Demonstrate consideration and respect for patients, families, and co-workers.
  • Complete on-line and in-service education programs annually and as required/offered.
  • Perform other tasks as assigned.
