About The Position

The University of Iowa Health Care is seeking a patient-centered Medical Assistant II to work at our Bettendorf Pediatric Outreach Clinic. This position supports other clinics within the building, including Family Medicine, Dermatology, and Endocrinology. The role involves developing relationships with patients, monitoring their care history, and delivering personalized, compassionate care. This position requires travel within a two-hour radius approximately once per month, utilizing a fleet vehicle with paid drive time. Requirements

  • Certification OR registration as a Medical Assistant OR completion of a recognized one-year Medical Assistant Program, OR Completion of a health care profession program with a curriculum incorporating elements of a Medical Assistant program including but not limited to: pathophysiology, medical terminology, basic pharmacology and medication administration including dose calculation and psychology.
  • Driver's License and ability to meet UI Fleet Safety Standards
  • Availability to provide support to other clinical locations based on clinical need/hours.

Nice To Haves

  • The ability to adapt quickly to different clinical environments and patient populations is highly desired.
  • Previous (minimum 1 year) experience as a Medical Assistant.
  • Current course completion card in Basic Cardiac Life Support for Healthcare Provider by the American Heart Association.
  • Phlebotomy experience.
  • Previous healthcare support experience, 1-3 years in healthcare setting in Pediatrics
  • Demonstrated experience fostering a welcoming and respectful work/academic environment.
  • Computer skills and ability to navigate the EMR - Epic, Word.

Responsibilities

  • Staff will support our Outreach Clinic patients.
  • Under direct supervision of physician, physician assistant, nurse practitioner or registered nurse.
  • Performs technical, patient care and related clerical functions in an ambulatory setting.
  • Duties may involve the use of electronic word/data processing equipment and/or conventional office equipment.
  • Coordinating all elements of the patient visit.
