About The Position

The Medical Assistant II role is within the GI/Hepatology & Weight Loss Clinic at the Spring Mill Medical Building. This is a full-time position, 40 hours per week, with a day shift schedule, typically Monday-Friday, 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM, with rotating start/end times. The clinic is a hub location for GI/Hepatology and Medical Weight Loss, featuring two modern clinics across the street from each other, offering a safe, professional environment with free parking and an on-site café. Specialized services include FibroScan and spleen scans. The clinic fosters a strong, team-driven culture with supportive colleagues.

Requirements

  • AHA Basic Life Support for healthcare workers certification required.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Graduation from a Medical Assistant program required.
  • Current certification in medical assisting required from America Association of Medical Assistants (CMA), American Medical Technologists (RMA), National Health Career Association (CCMA), National Center for competency Testing (NCMA), and/or American Medical Certification Association (CMAC).
  • Knowledge of OSHA, CLIA, and ADA required.
  • Knowledge of ICD-10 and CPT coding required.
  • Knowledge of standard laboratory and medical procedures.
  • Knowledge of insurance plans and third-party payers.
  • Ability to master standard clinical competencies per current Clinical policy, Point of Care and Skills Competency checklists.
  • Requires basic math and accurate data collection and entry skills.

Nice To Haves

  • TB validated (to administer or read) or validation obtained within 6 months of hire preferred.
  • Knowledge of Business Unit Quality Programs, Meaningful Use and Standard Work Programs and concepts within 6 months of hire.

Responsibilities

  • Room patients and prepare for provider visits
  • Take vital signs and complete medication reconciliation
  • Perform FibroScan and spleen scans (training and certification provided)
  • Clean and stock exam rooms and clinic supplies
  • Assist with scheduling and checkout for follow-up appointments
  • Manage Cerner messages and RightFax tasks
  • Support Hepatitis C metrics tracking
  • Provide general clinical and administrative support as needed
  • Perform duties associated with direct patient care and clinical direction
  • Assure completeness of ordered procedures and treatments
  • Assure smooth patient flow
  • Perform general lab work
  • Instruct patients concerning procedures, treatments and needs
  • Ensure medical orders and referrals are carried out accurately and in a timely manner
  • Perform registration and scheduling activities per organizational and departmental procedures
  • Maintain EMR files and perform general front office functions as needed
  • May perform computerized physician order entry, only if directed by assigned physician
  • Precept current MA team members or MA Externs as requested by leadership
