About The Position

This position assists physicians and nursing staff in the care of patients, performing ancillary testing, monitoring patient flow, assisting with exams, obtaining vital signs, reviewing charts, providing patient education, administering medications, and managing medical records. The role involves direct patient interaction and support within a medical setting.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited training program (school)
  • 3-5 years of supervised work experience in a medical setting
  • Medical Assistant certification (such as NAHP, NCCT, AAMA, NHA, AMT, etc.) is required
  • Demonstrated skill in venipuncture
  • Ability to perform all medical assisting responsibilities under state and faculty guidelines
  • CPR certification required

Responsibilities

  • Assisting physicians and nursing staff in the care of patients
  • Assisting in performing ancillary testing/services for patients
  • Assisting with the monitoring of patient flow
  • Assisting with patient exams
  • Obtaining vital signs
  • Reviewing charts prior to delivering care
  • Providing clear patient education and instructions
  • Administering medications properly
  • Assisting with daily/weekly clinical duties (room stocking, cleaning, etc.)
  • Assisting in creating and filing medical records
  • Gathers and documents brief history and chief complaint in the medical record
  • Follows established guidelines to obtain necessary testing based on the chief complaint prior to the exam
  • Prepares patient for examination by the health care provider
  • Performs routine office testing, including but not limited to; phlebotomy, sweat and hydration tests, urinalysis, vision testing, hearing screening, pulmonary function testing, temperature, pulse and blood pressure
  • Assists provider with procedures and minor surgical procedures
  • Obtains necessary patient specimens for diagnostic testing which would indicate the MA should also assist with obtaining cultures from rectums, vagina, anus, stool, wounds, throat biopsy specimens, etc.
  • Administers and documents injections and other medications given
  • Assists provider with clarification of patient instruction such as, diagnostic test preparation, and medication administration
