About The Position

This position assists physicians and nursing staff in the care of patients, performing ancillary testing, monitoring patient flow, and assisting with patient exams. Key duties include obtaining vital signs, reviewing charts, providing patient education, administering medications, and managing clinical duties such as room stocking and cleaning. The role also involves assisting in the creation and filing of medical records.

Requirements

  • Two to three years medical assisting and medical office experience.
  • Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant Program from an accredited institution.
  • Medical Assistant certification (such as NAHP, NCCT, AAMA, NHA, AMT, etc.) is required.
  • Demonstrated skill in venipuncture.
  • CPR certification is required.

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Assisting in creating and filing medical records
  • Gathers and documents brief history and chief complaint in the medical record.
  • Follows established guidelines to obtain necessary testing based on the chief complaint prior to the exam.
  • Prepares patient for examination by the health care provider.
  • Performs routine office testing, including but not limited to; phlebotomy, sweat and hydration tests, urinalysis, vision testing, hearing screening, pulmonary function testing, temperature, pulse and blood pressure.
  • Assists provider with procedures and minor surgical procedures.
  • Obtains necessary patient specimens for diagnostic testing which would indicate the MA should also assist with obtaining cultures from rectums, vagina, anus, stool, wounds, throat biopsy specimens, etc.
  • Administers and documents injections and other medications given.
  • Assists provider with clarification of patient instruction such as, diagnostic test preparation, and medication administration.
