About The Position

Under direct supervision of physician, physician assistant, nurse practitioner or registered nurse, performs technical, patient care and related clerical functions in an ambulatory setting by coordinating patient intake and clinic flow. The position schedule is Monday - Friday 8:00am - 5:00pm with occasional requirements to stay until 5:15pm. No weekends, holidays, or evenings. Position is not required to float to other units.

Requirements

Certification or registration as a Medical Assistant or completion of a recognized one-year Medical Assistant Program, or
Completion of a health care profession program with a curriculum incorporating elements of a Medical Assistant program including but not limited to pathophysiology, medical terminology, basic pharmacology, and medication administration including dose calculation and psychology.

Nice To Haves

One year experience working in an ambulatory clinic as a Medical Assistant.
Experience organizing and prioritizing multiple tasks.

Responsibilities

Performs patient intake activities such as blood pressure, temperature, weight, history, venipunctures
Assists with specialized procedures
Documents clinic activity as required
Performs laboratory tests and records results, and performs quality control activities
Transports lab specimens, reports and equipment to and from UI Health Care and other University areas
Reviews medical records for required and recommended immunizations and documents same
Administers medications including giving immunizations
Cleans and prepares examination and procedure rooms
Performs selected clerical duties such as scheduling, filing medical records, entering immunization information
