About The Position

The position provides support to the clinic provider at San Juan College Student Health Center to assist with operations. The role is responsible for administrative and clinic tasks such as maintaining patient records, preparing patients and rooms for examination, assisting providers with exams, and performing front-desk tasks.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of modern office practices and procedures.
  • Knowledge of college and program policies and procedures.
  • Knowledge of computers and job-related software programs (Electronic Health Record).
  • Skill in prioritizing and organizing work.
  • Skill in the use of such office equipment as a computer, scanner, fax machine, and copier.
  • Skill in oral and written communication.
  • Knowledge of patient care and examination procedures.
  • Must be able to maintain confidentiality at all times.
  • Firm grasp on medical practices, administrative processes, and organizational policies.
  • Completion of an accredited medical assistance certification program (ex. CMA AAMA Certification, RMA certification)
  • American Heart Association-Basic Life Support Certificate

Responsibilities

  • Takes patient medical history.
  • Explains treatment procedures to patients.
  • Prepares patients for examinations (ex. Take vitals)
  • Assists provider during examinations as needed.
  • Collects and prepares laboratory specimens.
  • Performs basic lab tests (ex. Rapid strep, rapid flu etc)
  • Prepares and administers medications: including by intramuscular, intradermal, and subcutaneous injections—including vaccinations/immunizations, as directed by a licensed provider.
  • Takes electrocardiograms.
  • Assists with wound care and changing dressings.
  • Removes sutures.
  • Prepares equipment and exam rooms, clean rooms and instruments.
  • Equips exam rooms with appropriate supplies.
  • Maintains logs and required checks (ex. Fridge temperatures, expired medications, lab controls etc.)
  • Answers telephone and greet visitors; provides information and assistance to students and other visitors; refers to appropriate personnel; takes messages and makes appointments.
  • Updates patient medical records (obtaining consents and forms).
  • Arranges for laboratory services, assist with referrals.
  • Assists in monitoring program and institutional budgets and expenses.
  • Prepares purchase orders and spend authorizations.
  • Sorts and distributes incoming mail.
  • Maintains program files and records.
  • Schedules appointments; makes travel arrangements.
  • Maintains office and clinic supply inventory; makes purchases as needed.
  • Serves on college committees.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
