About The Position

This role is 85% front desk/administrative in nature, with the remaining 15% being clinical, supporting Bariatric Surgery. The Medical Assistant II will fulfill patient care and clerical responsibilities, assist physicians with procedures, manage patient flow, and maintain medical supplies and equipment. This position also involves training and mentoring Level I MA staff and overseeing clinical office support.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma/GED
  • Completion of Training Certificate from an approved Medical Assistant certificate course
  • 2+ years of experience as a Medical Assistant
  • Medical Assistant certificate from an approved school
  • BCLS certification – Required (Issuing Authority: AHA)

Responsibilities

  • Performing venipuncture and/or EKGs
  • Checking schedules and organizing patient flow
  • Accompanying patients to exam/procedure room
  • Assisting patients with walking, transferring, and dressing
  • Collecting and processing specimens and point of care testing
  • Preparing for exams
  • Assisting physicians with various procedures
  • Taking vital signs
  • Relaying instructions to patients and/or families
  • Answering calls and providing pertinent information
  • Sending and receiving patient medical records
  • Obtaining lab/x-ray reports, hospital notes, referral information
  • Completing forms and requisitions
  • Managing charts to ensure information is completed and filed appropriately
  • Entering orders into the electronic medical record (EMR) system or preparing prescription refill requests
  • Inventorying, ordering, or restocking medical supplies
  • Providing set-up of examination room and instruments in accordance with proper sterilization techniques
  • Maintaining logging system for refrigeration of medications, point of care testing, sterilization process, crash cart, or others as needed
  • Checking expiration dates on all medications and medical supplies and disposing appropriately
  • Maintaining a safe, secure, and healthy work environment
  • Complying with established personal protective equipment requirements
  • Assisting in the maintenance of medical charts (filing, Op Reports, test results, home care forms)
  • Scheduling surgeries/procedures or working in conjunction with Surgical Coordinator
  • Verifying times with patients; preparing charts, pre-admissions and consent forms as necessary
  • Performing proficient phlebotomy duties
  • Performing appointment scheduling and registration for patients
  • Updating patient demographic and insurance information
  • Maintaining, adjusting, and confirming patient office schedule
  • Checking and verifying & updating insurance information utilizing internal or web sources
  • Performing and verifying pre-certification for procedures as necessary
  • Providing training and mentoring to Level I MA staff
  • Directing and assigning MA schedules and work flow to meet the needs of the practice and applicable to patient volumes
  • Overseeing the successful delivery of clinical office support to meet the needs of each physician
  • Performing other duties and tasks as required
