About The Position

This is a part-time Medical Assistant II position within the Women's Health (OBGYN) department. The role is benefits-eligible and involves patient-centered care in a supportive team environment focused on women's health. The clinic is located at IU Fishers, OBGYN USA Parkway, and OBGYN McCordsville. The team consists of 6 Medical Assistants, and dependability, commitment, and a strong work ethic are valued.

Requirements

  • AHA Basic Life Support for healthcare workers certification required.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Graduation from a Medical Assistant program required.
  • Current certification in medical assisting required from America Association of Medical Assistants (CMA), American Medical Technologists (RMA), National Health Career Association (CCMA), National Center for competency Testing (NCMA), and/or American Medical Certification Association (CMAC).
  • Knowledge of OSHA, CLIA, and ADA required.
  • Knowledge of ICD-10 and CPT coding required.
  • Knowledge of standard laboratory and medical procedures.
  • Knowledge of insurance plans and third-party payers.
  • Ability to master standard clinical competencies per current Clinical policy, Point of Care and Skills Competency checklists.
  • Requires basic math and accurate data collection and entry skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Other advanced life support certifications may be required per unit/department specialty according to patient care policies.
  • TB validated (to administer or read) or validation obtained within 6 months of hire preferred.
  • Knowledge of Business Unit Quality Programs, Meaningful Use and Standard Work Programs and concepts within 6 months of hire.

Responsibilities

  • Prep work and rooming patients
  • Daily and weekly clinic tasks
  • Patient phone calls as needed
  • Reschedule provider schedules for last-minute changes
  • Complete paperwork and documentation
  • Perform duties associated with direct patient care and clinical direction in accordance with organization standards.
  • Assure completeness of ordered procedures and treatments.
  • Assure smooth patient flow.
  • Perform general lab work.
  • Instruct patients concerning procedures, treatments and needs.
  • Ensure medical orders and referrals are carried out accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Perform registration and scheduling activities per organizational and departmental procedures.
  • Maintain EMR files and perform general front office functions as needed.
  • May perform computerized physician order entry, only if directed by assigned physician.
  • Precept current MA team members or MA Externs as requested by leadership.
