The Medical Assistant I is responsible for adhering to the Medical Assistant scope of practice, following all policies and procedures, and maintaining training and competency based on area of specialty when providing patient care. This role performs rooming/visit tasks such as vital signs, medication reconciliation, medical history, health maintenance, allergy review, and screenings. The Medical Assistant I assists providers with or performs procedures as ordered, and handles lab-related duties including venipuncture, specimen collection/labeling/packing, preparation of lab orders/requisitions, and results tracking. They also administer medications and vaccines safely and perform other assigned duties such as medication refills, insurance authorizations, patient messaging, and appointment scheduling. The position requires cross-training for duties relevant to specialty or clinic practice, demonstrating effective communication and teamwork, and maintaining a clean work environment with appropriate stocking of supplies and equipment. A key aspect of this role is the ability to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served, understanding growth and development principles.
