About The Position

The Medical Assistant I is a healthcare professional who supports clinicians and other medical staff by performing clinical duties during the patient encounter. Responsibilities include greeting patients, taking vital signs, preparing patients for examinations, assisting with medical procedures, collecting laboratory specimens, and conducting administrative tasks as assigned. The Medical Assistant I maintains a clean, safe clinical environment and ensures efficient unit operations while providing compassionate, high-quality patient care.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED, preferred
  • Minimum of 1 year of relevant work experience, preferred
  • Customer service experience, preferred
  • Certification as a Medical Assistant or Certified Nursing Assistant, preferred
  • BLS Certification within 6 months of hire, required
  • Medium Work - Exerting up to 50 lbs. for force occasionally, and/or up to 20 lbs. of force frequently, and/or up to 10 lbs. of force constantly to move objects
  • Occasional balancing, climbing, crouching, kneeling, lifting, pulling, pushing, reaching, stooping
  • Requires occasional fit testing
  • Frequent typing/clerical/dexterity, grasping, hearing, repetitive motion, seeing/monitor/computer use, standing, talking, walking, visual acuity (color, depth, perception)
  • Occasional bodily fluids/bloodborne exposure, burns, chemical, electrical, explosive, mechanical
  • Occasional noise, vibration, wet and/or humid, dust, fumes, gases, mists, odors
  • Occasional Travel - The job may require travel from time- to-time, but not on a regular basis.

Responsibilities

  • Receives and greets every patient in person or via telephone a courteous and friendly manner using a welcoming positive tone, words and actions.
  • Displays ownership of the entire patient experience, including but not limited to, rooming of patient, collection of vitals, complete and accurate phone messages, chart preparation, medication refills and the abstracting of external records
  • Raises up emergent situations or expressed patient problems directly to RN, Supervising Nurse or Practitioner for assistance.
  • Enters charges for supplies and clinical testing
  • Assists with routing forms to appropriate Bassett department such as disability or workers compensation paperwork as applicable
  • Distributes AVS per patients communication preference
  • Performs all Point of Care testing as pertinent to specialty area
  • Runs controls on point of care testing equipment and ensures logbooks are updated appropriately
  • Performs clinical testing per departmental protocol
  • Cleans and stocks exam rooms on a daily basis or according to need
  • Checks medications and supplies for outdates according to standards set forth by clinical area
  • Monitors supply levels to improve inventory control
  • Meets yearly competency requirements as set forth by departmental leadership
  • Float to other locations or departments as requested
  • Opens and/or closes clinic per departmental guidelines
  • Participates monthly or quarterly environmental rounds by following standards set forth by clinical areas as assigned
  • Attends required in-services as requested by supervisor
  • Exhibits or recognizes areas of professional growth (ie, computer training, refresher training, EAP, Epic Superuser, etc.)
  • Attends staff meetings, reviewing minutes of any meeting missed
  • Maintains a thorough knowledge and understanding of Bassett policies and procedures as well as regulatory compliance
  • Required to attend 4 CE's per year related to job role/function
  • Performs similar or related duties as requested or directed
