The Medical Assistant (MA) is responsible for assisting physician, PA or NP with clerical duties, patient flow, patient care and procedures. This role involves preparing examination rooms, maintaining efficient patient flow, ensuring proper preparation for patient visits, and communicating/providing care consistent with the age, cultural, spiritual, and developmental needs of the patient. The MA will also handle telephone communication, schedule appointments, stock examination rooms, and assist in ordering and maintaining supplies. Responsibilities include reconciling encounters, communicating issues to supervisors, and performing within the scope of practice. Key clinical duties include obtaining vital signs, documenting medications and allergies in the EHR, entering orders, scheduling appointments, and providing referrals. The MA must adhere to safety precautions, maintain proficiency with equipment, and facilitate transitions of care. Flexibility with work schedules and performing unassigned duties are also expected, including providing scribing services.
