About The Position

Optimus Health Care, the largest provider of primary health care services in Fairfield County, is seeking a Full-Time Medical Assistant/Front Office Registrar for their Bridgeport, CT location. This role is part of a patient-centered medical home (PCMH) care team and requires a bilingual individual (Spanish strongly preferred, Portuguese or Haitian Creole considered) with a strong mix of clinical and front office skills. The Medical Assistant/FOR is responsible for ensuring the complete and timely patient flow process, verifying demographic and insurance information, managing provider schedules, administering health questionnaires, conducting patient intake, acting as a chaperone, updating patient information in Epic (EMR system), managing in-basket messages, taking patient history and vital signs, preparing patients for exams and treatments, preparing exam rooms, assisting with scheduling tests and treatments, performing basic lab procedures, collecting co-pays, adhering to infection control and safety guidelines, maintaining competency with clinical equipment, connecting language interpretation services, and performing administrative tasks such as answering phones, copying, faxing, scanning, and organizing. The role also involves exploring community resources and networking with community providers. This position encompasses both clinical and administrative duties.

Requirements

  • Medical Assistant Certification & Completed Externship Required
  • Bilingual: Spanish-English strongly preferred, will consider Portuguese or Haitian Creole
  • Demonstrate the ability to effectively interpret medical terminology
  • Professional positive attitude, vision, understanding of customer service principals, trustworthiness, and excellent interpersonal skills
  • Graduated from an accredited Medical Assistant Program
  • Professional Medical Assistant Certification obtained through one of the following agencies
  • CPR certification required upon hire and recertification bi-annually

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in a clinical setting preferred
  • Familiarity working with Electronic Medical Records (EMR) helpful
  • Certification from the American Association of Medical Assistants or in process of acquiring Certification, a plus

Responsibilities

  • Assure that pre-work is performed before the patient arrives by verifying demographic and insurance information to ensure prompt payment of services to Optimus
  • Monitor provider schedules to ensure Optimus’ established productivity levels and timely scheduling of patient visits
  • Administer health questionnaire to patients
  • Conduct initial intake of patients
  • Act as a chaperone by accompanying the clinician in the exam room for any intimate exam
  • Update patient information in Epic (EMR system)
  • Manage in-basket messages
  • Take patient history & vital signs
  • Prepare patients for exam & treatment
  • Prepare exam rooms w/ necessary equipment & supplies
  • Assist with scheduling of tests & treatments
  • Perform basic lab procedures
  • Collect co-pays
  • Adhere to infection control and safety guidelines, and confidentiality and privacy policies
  • Maintain competency in the use of clinical equipment and procedure
  • Connect language interpretation service for the clinician when needed
  • Answer phones, copying, faxing, scanning, organizing along with other administrative tasks as needed
  • Explore community resources available to meet the patient’s needs
  • Maintain ongoing networking efforts w/community providers in the area
  • Perform other related duties as needed
