About The Position

Optimus Health Care, the largest provider of primary health care services in Fairfield County, is seeking a dedicated Full Time Medical Assistant/Front Office Registrar to join their School Base Health Center Team in Bridgeport, CT. This position is 35 hours per week and hours are consistent with public school hours. The role is part of a team-based model of care, emphasizing kindness and compassion. The Medical Assistant/Front Office Registrar is responsible for ensuring a complete and timely patient flow process, working closely with providers, nurses, and clinical support staff. They must exhibit sensitivity to a diverse population and maintain strict confidentiality. Key duties include verifying demographic and insurance information, monitoring provider schedules for productivity, conducting initial patient intake, exploring community resources, updating patient information, collecting co-pays, taking patient history and vital signs, preparing patients for exams and treatments, preparing exam rooms, and assisting with scheduling tests and treatments. Administrative tasks such as answering phones, copying, faxing, and scanning are also included. Bilingual skills in English and Spanish are helpful, as is a strong mix of clinical and front office skills. CPR certification is required upon hire and recertification every two years.

Requirements

  • Graduated from an accredited Medical Assistant Program.
  • Professional Medical Assistant Certification obtained through one of the following agencies.
  • Experience in a clinical setting.
  • CPR certification required upon hire and recertification bi-annually.
  • Professional positive attitude, vision, understanding of customer service principals, trustworthiness, and excellent interpersonal skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Bilingual in English and Spanish.
  • Familiarity working with Electronic Medical Records (EMR) helpful.
  • Bilingual: Spanish-English or English/Creole preferred.
  • Demonstrate the ability to effectively interpret medical terminology.
  • Certification from the American Association of Medical Assistants or in process of acquiring Certification, a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Work with providers, nurses, and/or clinical support staff to ensure the complete and timely patient flow process.
  • Exhibit sensitivity to the needs of a diverse population and maintain strict confidentiality.
  • Perform pre-work before patient arrival by verifying demographic and insurance information to ensure prompt payment of services.
  • Monitor provider schedules to ensure established productivity levels and timely scheduling of patient visits.
  • Conduct initial intake of patients.
  • Explore community resources available to meet clients’ needs.
  • Update patient information.
  • Collect co-pays, take patient history & vital signs.
  • Prepare patients for exam & treatment.
  • Prepare exam rooms with necessary equipment & supplies.
  • Assist with scheduling of tests & treatments.
  • Answer phones, perform copying, faxing, scanning along with other administrative tasks as needed.
