About The Position

The Floater Medical Assistant is a full-time position responsible for delivering competent, age-specific care to patients in an ambulatory, primary care setting. This role involves supporting various specialties including family practice, women's health, pediatrics, podiatry, and pain management. The Medical Assistant will perform treatments and procedures, conduct CLIA-waived testing, and participate in patient education. The position requires flexibility to travel between multiple clinic locations, work various schedules including late nights and last-minute changes, and be sensitive to the Indian culture and its needs. The role also includes administrative tasks such as maintaining patient flow, preparing patients and equipment, documenting screening results, and assisting with inventory and tracking logs. This position requires working evenings and potentially weekends, and floating to various clinics within the RSBCIHI system to provide staff coverage.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Successfully completed a certificate program for Medical Assistants.
  • A minimum of one year of experience as a Medical Assistant required.
  • Current American Heart Association or American Red Cross BLS certification (certification must be obtained prior to orientation).
  • Willing to travel between multiple RSBCIHI clinic locations with reliable transportation.
  • Possess a valid driver’s license.
  • Available to work various schedules as needed, including late nights and last minute schedule changes.
  • Able to deliver competent, age-specific care to patients in an ambulatory, primary care setting, with various specialties (family practice, woman's heath, pediatrics, podiatry, pain management), including performance of treatment/ procedures, and performance of CLIA waived testing procedures.
  • Must be able to work with the Indian Community and be sensitive to the Indian culture and its needs.
  • Basic computer skills (Microsoft Office).
  • Utilization of electronic health record systems.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with multiple disciplines within the medical team including providers, pharmacy, nursing staff, and pharmacy staff.
  • Ability to work a variable schedule to meet client and program needs.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver competent, age-specific care to patients in an ambulatory, primary care setting, including performance of treatments/procedures, performance of waived testing procedures, and participation in patient education activities.
  • Exhibit a professional manner by communicating effectively with fellow employees, medical providers, and patients/families, while maintaining confidentiality regarding personnel issues.
  • Contribute to efficient and effective patient flow during daily operation by maintaining current knowledge of front-desk procedure to expedite scheduling of patients and completion of appropriate paperwork.
  • Participate, within the scope of Medical Assistant practice, in visit planning activities to improve health maintenance compliance and customer satisfaction.
  • Prepare patient and equipment/supplies for various procedures.
  • Demonstrate expertise in patient screening activities and skillful use of medical equipment, including accurate, timely documentation of screening test results.
  • Promptly notify appropriate licensed staff (Registered Nurse, Licensed Vocational Nurse, and/or medical provider) in the instance of abnormal results of screening procedures.
  • Perform appropriate equipment maintenance and promptly report equipment malfunction.
  • Use patient-related computer applications appropriately.
  • Under supervision by a physician and/or nurse practitioner, and within the Medical Assistant scope of practice, perform and document minor treatment and procedures (i.e. ear irrigations, foot care, procedures involving personal hygiene).
  • Participate in effective and efficient use of resources by monitoring supply and material inventories and following proper procedures to reorder and restock as directed by the Charge Nurse and/Director of Nursing & Outreach Services.
  • Assist in maintaining accurate tracking logs and systems for patient care health maintenance issues.
  • Attend required meetings and training sessions and participate in organizational performance improvement activities.
  • Refer to the Ambulatory Care Nursing Manual, Program Administration Manual, and other established guidelines and protocols as necessary to comply with this organization’s standards of performance.
  • Participate in clinic-related health events in the communities served by the corporation.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Site Manager or Director of Nursing/Outreach.
  • This position requires working evenings and on weekends, if needed.
  • This position requires floating to various clinics within the RSBCIHI system to provide staff coverage, as assigned by the Director of Nursing, or assigned designee.
