Medical Assistants have various administrative and clinical duties. These may include taking medical histories, explaining procedures to patients, collecting and preparing specimens for the lab or performing basic laboratory tests themselves, administering or instructing patients on the proper uses of medications, drawing blood, taking electrocardiograms, removing sutures, and changing dressings. A caregiver in this position works varying shifts from 7:30AM – 8:00PM, with an additional time of 7:30am - 4:00pm. A caregiver who excels in this role will: Assist with performing screenings and treatments by gathering and updating information related to health maintenance, identifying medication changes, updating allergy information, collecting specimens, performing tests and documenting patient care. Monitor and communicate changes in patient condition. Maintain equipment, medical supplies and examination areas. Perform administrative/clerical duties, such as filing, reception, scheduling, data entry and patient registration.

Requirements

  • Graduate from an approved medical assisting program OR military training as a hospital Corpsman (HM), Combat Medic (68W) or Medical Service Technician (4N0X1)
  • Completion of a clinical externship OR extensive clinical experience
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA). If you do not hold this certification, you must obtain it during your new hire period

Nice To Haves

  • Medical Assisting certification
  • Successful completion of a Cleveland Clinic externship
  • One year experience as a Medical Assistant
