About The Position

The Registered/Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) provides advanced clinical and administrative support within Arkansas Children’s primary and specialty ambulatory clinics. Working under the direct supervision and delegation of a licensed provider, the CMA partners with providers, nurses, and the interdisciplinary care team to deliver safe, high-quality pediatric care. This role performs a broader scope of delegated clinical functions and supports quality, safety, and operational excellence across the clinic environment.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED and completion of accredited medical assistant program
  • 1 of the following certifications is required
  • Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) - American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA)
  • National Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA) - Unknown Issuer
  • Registered Medical Assistant - Unknown Issuer

  • Related Field - 1 year healthcare or related setting as MA

Responsibilities

  • Provides comprehensive pediatric clinical support, including patient intake, vital signs, growth assessment, and accurate EHR documentation.
  • Administers medications and immunizations (including vaccines) under provider order and within delegated scope of practice, following medication safety standards, pediatric protocols, and documentation requirements.
  • Performs phlebotomy and specimen collection (venous and capillary) as delegated and in accordance with laboratory, safety, and competency standards.
  • Conducts point-of-care testing and clinic-based diagnostics as delegated, documenting and communicating results per workflow.
  • Recognizes changes in patient condition and promptly notifies the licensed provider, supporting emergency response and patient safety protocols.
  • Maintains accurate and complete documentation in Epic, including clinical procedures, patient education, order workflows, secure messaging, result note workflows, and downtime processes.
  • Contributes to quality improvement and population health initiatives, including Vaccines for Children (VFC), Patient-Centered Medical Home (PCMH), and other performance programs.
  • Provides patient and family education as directed, using effective communication strategies to promote understanding, engagement, and family-centered care.
  • Supports clinic flow, infection prevention standards, and operational efficiency.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned to support safe, efficient, and high-quality patient care delivery.
