About The Position

As a member of the health care team, this role assists in coordinating the examination, treatment, and health care planning for patients under the direction of a provider. It also assists with other office functions to support patient care and office operations, following all established protocols, policies, procedures, and standardized workflows. The position involves operating and maintaining a mobile clinic vehicle, participating in mobile clinic events, providing logistical support, and performing standard Certified Medical Assistant duties. Additionally, it supports the AHN Cancer Institute’s Moving the Needle initiative and attends assigned community outreach events.

Requirements

  • Minimum High School / GED or Completion of a Medical Assistant Program
  • Newly hired medical assistants must complete training and/or attempt testing within 30 days of hire.
  • Newly hired medical assistants must obtain certification within 120 days of hire.
  • Medical assistants must achieve and maintain certification in accordance with CMS Meaningful Use requirements.
  • CPR – American Heart Association
  • Act 34 Criminal Background Clearance Certificate
  • Act 33 Child Abuse Clearance Certificate
  • Act 73 FBI Fingerprinting Criminal Background Clearance Certificate

Responsibilities

  • Operate the AHN Mobile Clinic for transportation to and from scheduled primary care events.
  • Oversee the ongoing maintenance of the vehicle, including coordinating state inspections, generator maintenance, oil changes, tire rotations, winterization procedures, and necessary repairs.
  • Submit monthly reports detailing maintenance expenditures to the Mobile Clinic Manager.
  • Participate in all scheduled mobile clinic events.
  • Provide support for event planning and execute pre-event preparations, including procuring supplies, loading the vehicle, and operating it to the designated clinic site.
  • Execute event setup and teardown, involving the arrangement of event spaces and subsequent disassembly.
  • Perform pre-registration responsibilities for patients or assist in scheduling patients for future clinics.
  • Provide support for Primary Care mobile clinic events by executing standard Certified Medical Assistant duties such as patient registration, check-in, payment collection, patient rooming, recording vital signs, administering applicable screenings, and administering vaccinations under direct supervision.
  • Support the AHN Cancer Institute’s Moving the Needle initiative and attend all assigned community outreach events.
  • Prepare and room patients within the clinical practice setting.
  • Accurately obtain patient vital signs.
  • Accurately document patient information, patient history, and medication screening.
  • Prepare the exam room for patient visits.
  • Complete annual wellness visit screenings and pend orders for required age-appropriate screenings.
  • Serve as an electronic health record (EHR) superuser.
  • Accurately document all pertinent details in the EHR according to established standards and workflows.
  • Review and update medication lists and problem lists in the EHR.
  • Assist in the coordination of patient care under the supervision of the assigned health care provider.
  • Assist providers with examinations and procedures.
  • Assist in the administration of various screenings (depression, tobacco, chronic disease, MU required).
  • Perform in-house testing following established protocols and policies.
  • Assist with patient prescription needs based on established protocols.
  • Provide clinical leadership oversight and serve as a department resource for clinical questions.
  • Review pre-visit planning documentation and patient charts in advance of appointments.
  • Provide follow-up with patients at designated intervals via patient-preferred methods.
  • Notify patients of test results under the direction of a provider.
  • Ensure adequate inventory of medical supplies and that all patient treatment areas are stocked.
  • Clean and sterilize instruments per established policy and manufacturer's guidelines.
  • Accurately perform lab controls and equipment checks.
  • Administer and accurately document medications.
  • Serve as a peer mentor, orienting new medical assistants.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in teaching pre-visit planning, meaningful use standards, documentation, and workflows.
  • Provide feedback and performance evaluations for orientees.
  • Mentor MA students and externs as assigned.
  • Perform clerical office functions and other duties as assigned or required.
  • May serve as office safety officer, maintaining logs and quality assurance testing.
  • May perform additional duties such as minor wound care, splinting, and other procedures.
  • May require travel between physician office locations.
