About The Position

A Medical Assistant (MA) under the direct supervision of a physician or Advance Care Practitioner. Decisions are limited to defined parameters around work expectations, quality standards, priorities, policies and procedures. The Medical Assistant is responsible for rooming patients, preparing them for examination, taking vital signs, updating patient medical records, preparing and cleaning exam rooms, assisting with procedures, drawing blood, performing EKGs and SWAB tests, managing physician orders, obtaining prior authorizations, and handling patient check-in, registration, insurance verification, scanning documents, answering phones, returning calls, and scheduling appointments. The role requires strong interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills.

Requirements

  • Certified Medical Assistant
  • One year of Medical Training Preferred but not required
  • Medical Assistant Certification
  • American Heart Association BLS certification upon hire or within 90 days of start in position

Responsibilities

  • Rooming patients and preparing them for examination
  • Taking patients vital signs which include blood pressure, height, weight and documenting in EMR
  • Updating patient medical record including medications, allergies, past medical & surgical history
  • Prepping procedure room for minor procedure and assisting with those procedures as needed
  • Preparing exam rooms for provider dependent on appointment type
  • Cleaning exam room and beds after each appointment and restocking medical supplies daily
  • Assisting physician and Acute Care Providers with patient examinations
  • Drawing blood, performing EKG, SWAB test and any additional clinical test within clinic
  • Managing Physician orders by submitting to appropriate departments such as imagining, labs, scheduling surgeries, of referral to specialist
  • Confirming all orders are completed and that results have been returned
  • Obtaining Prior Authorizations as needed
  • Checking in patients, registering patients, verifying insurance, scanning documents in patient charts, answering phones, returning phone calls, and scheduling appointments
