Medical Assistant - Cardiology
About The Position
Advocate Health, one of the nation’s largest nonprofit health systems, is seeking a Medical Assistant for its Cardiology department. This is a full-time, 0.8 FTE position in a busy, fast-growing clinic located in Chicago, IL. The role involves supporting providers, connecting with patients, and ensuring a seamless, compassionate patient experience. As a key member of the ambulatory care team, responsibilities include welcoming patients, taking vital signs, preparing patients for exams, assisting providers, administering medications and vaccines, performing lab-related tasks, and documenting care in the electronic health record. The position may require travel to additional locations. Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Medical assistant diploma or 2 years of medical assistant experience or be a certified MA with 2 years of medical assistant experience.
- Must be able to sit, stand, walk, lift, squat, bend, reach above shoulders, and twist frequently throughout the workday.
- Must be able to lift and support the weight of 35 pounds in handling patients, medical equipment, and supplies.
- Must be able to push/pull with 30 lbs. of force and perform a sliding transfer of 150 lbs. with a second person present.
- Must have functional speech, vision, hearing, and touch with ability to use fine hand manipulation skills for IV insertion and other procedures/functions.
- Maneuver foot pedals on carts or machines.
- Perform physical safety interventions such as patient restraint and verbal de-escalation, if needed.
- Must be able to respond quickly to changes in patient and/or unit conditions.
Nice To Haves
- Phlebotomy skills are preferred.
Responsibilities
- Welcome patients and support their transition into care.
- Take and record vital signs, medical histories, and health screenings.
- Prepare patients for exams and assist providers during procedures.
- Administer medications and vaccines as directed.
- Perform lab-related tasks including specimen collection and point-of-care testing.
- Document care accurately in the electronic health record.
- Partner with physicians, nurses, and teammates to deliver high-quality, coordinated care.
