The Medical Assistant assists their assigned Providers with patient examinations, pre-visit questions, treatments and procedures as directed by the Provider, while maintaining an efficient flow of patients through the clinic. This role involves greeting and welcoming patients, escorting them to examination rooms, gathering pre-examination information, and accurately documenting vital signs and chief complaints in the electronic medical record (EMR). The Medical Assistant will also administer medications and injections under provider's direction, update vaccine information in the state immunization system, prepare and restock examination rooms, and assist providers during physical exams and procedures. The position requires adherence to safety regulations, including Universal Precautions, proper use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), and compliance with HIPAA and OSHA guidelines. Additionally, the role involves coordinating referrals, communicating with external entities to obtain test and referral results, assisting with medical emergencies, and supporting the plan of care and patient education. The Medical Assistant may occasionally travel to other Variety Care health centers to provide backup coverage and is expected to support the organization's commitment to Patient Centered Medical Home principles and the "Triple Aim" of healthcare reform. A strong emphasis is placed on personal character, including open and honest communication, integrity, adaptability, sound judgment, and problem-solving skills. The role also requires familiarity with emergency code team procedures and crash cart/emergency kit protocols.
