The Medical Assistant assists their assigned Providers with patient examinations, pre-visit questions, treatments and procedures as directed by the Provider, while maintaining an efficient flow of patients through the clinic. This role requires the ability to greet and welcome patients, escort them to examination rooms, gather pre-examination information, and accurately record vital signs and patient complaints in the electronic medical record (EMR). The Medical Assistant will also administer medications and injections under provider direction, manage telephone encounters, and administer immunizations, ensuring accurate updates in the Oklahoma State Immunization Information System (OSIIS). Responsibilities include preparing and restocking examination rooms, assisting providers during exams and procedures, and participating in training to improve patient care. The role also involves adhering to safety regulations, including Universal Precautions, proper disposal of contaminated items, and maintaining patient confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA. Coordination with referral clerks, communication with external health entities, and assisting in medical emergencies are also key functions. The Medical Assistant will support the plan of care and patient education, and may occasionally travel to other Variety Care health centers for coverage. The ability to function as a member of an emergency code team and familiarity with emergency equipment are also necessary.
