This is a 1.0 FTE position (80 hours per two-week pay period) with 8-hour day shifts and no weekends. The Medical Assistant (MA) Apprentice role provides patient care within limits of current training, while taking coursework and studying toward completion of a Medical Assistant program. Their work is guided and supervised by Allina site nursing leadership in collaboration with the school based on the progressive completion of the curriculum. The goal is delivering excellent patient care while fostering the learning needs of the MA Apprentice. Upon successful completion of the Apprenticeship Program course requirements, the MA Apprentice will be eligible to apply for a Medical Assistant role and perform full duties as stated in the MA job description.

Requirements

  • Must be 18 years of age with education and/or experience needed to meet required functional competencies as listed on the job description
  • Must be enrolled in an Allina approved accredited Medical Assistant program
  • Current BLS certification from the American Heart Association
  • Current BLS certification from the American Red Cross
  • Allina in-house BLS training (within 30 days of hire)

Responsibilities

  • Perform limited skills & duties while attending coursework at an Allina approved MA program.
  • Cleaning and stocking rooms, copying, faxing, preparing patient forms, transcribing patient responses to questionnaires.
  • Clinical skills & duties will expand as MA apprentice moves through the MA coursework and demonstrates competency.
  • Clinical skills & duties will align with the MA program curriculum progression and MA job description.
  • Assigned Allina Preceptor/Trainer will validate MA Apprentice to ensure competency to perform task independently.
  • Other duties as assigned.
