About The Position

The Technician in training is actively engaged in the Grow Our Own Talent program offered by Carilion Clinic. Working under the functional supervision of assigned staff, educators, and leaders, they will participate in a combination of classroom education, job shadowing, and hands-on learning. Openings are available in the following areas: Family Medicine - North Roanoke, Family Medicine - Colonial Avenue, Orthopedics Roanoke, Orthopedics NRV, Dermatology, Cardiology, Pain Management, and Pediatrics. The Technician in training participates in on-the-job training programs designed to develop essential skills and knowledge required for certification, including classroom and hands-on training. They will study and master course materials, shadow experienced staff, observe and assist with activities under supervision, and may, under direct supervision of licensed and/or certified staff, learn and practice proper techniques and procedures for providing care to patients. They will communicate effectively with internal and external individuals using a variety of communication tools, learn proper documentation practices for patient care and other required records utilizing electronic systems, and follow all hospital policies, procedures, and protocols. They are committed to learning and professional development, actively seeking feedback and opportunities for growth, and will enter data in electronic systems and complete basic forms as needed.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • No experience required.
  • Depends on department for Licensure, certification, and/or registration.
  • Depends on department for Life Support.
  • Must meet Office of EMS requirements for a criminal history background check on the date of hire and maintain this standard for the duration of employment.
  • Proficient in computer and keyboard skills.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Must be able to work efficiently, manage time wisely, and follow policy and procedures with minimal supervision.
  • Must have good interpersonal, communication, and listening skills.
  • Must successfully complete orientation and competency validation for the position.
  • Subject to random drug/alcohol testing.
