About The Position

The Medical Assistant 3 performs multi-skilled tasks to assist the medical providers. The Medical Assistant 3 assists patients’ healthcare management and clinical procedures in a culturally competent manner utilizing evidence-based standards of quality, safety, and service. The Medical Assistant 3 provides hands-on care to patients while adhering to regulatory requirements, standards of care, and institutional policies and procedures, under the direct supervision and responsibility of a licensed physician. The physician in charge may delegate the tasks to oversee the MA 3 to a Nurse or Designee in charge of the unit/clinic. The incumbent adheres to ethical and legal standards of professional practice, recognize, respond to emergencies, and demonstrate professionalism. The role provides care within the philosophy, mission, vision, and values, as well as within the policies and procedures of the Department of Nursing and the University of Miami. As a professional, monitors the quality of care provided and nurtures a compassionate and healing environment. The Medical Assistant 3 works directly with the Nurse Manager/Nurse Supervisor/Charge Nurse and/or the Designee in charge of the Unit or Clinic to ensure a safe delivery of care that supports the UHealth mission.

RMA- Registered Medical Assistant - American Medical Technologists (AMT)
CCMA- Certified Clinical Medical Assistant- National Healthcare Association (NHA)
NCMA - National Certified Medical Assistant (NHA - NCCT)
NRCMA - Nationally Registered Certified Medical Assistant (NAHP)
American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) for healthcare providers
HIV & AIDS Certification: Florida HIV/AIDS Healthcare Professional Continue Education (CE) Certification
High School Diploma or equivalent/relevant experience, certification or license
Minimum 4 years of relevant experience required

Knowledge of integrative or lifestyle medicine principles.

Ability to work in a fast-paced outpatient clinic while providing compassionate, whole-person care.

Ensures compliance with all State and Federal regulatory guidelines to include Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).
Performs professionally within their clinical scope of practice skills utilizing State, Federal, and University of Miami’s standards, guidelines, relevant statues, rules, and regulations. Incorporates protocols and standards of care into daily practice.

Abides by the standards for ethical behavior, therapeutic communication and protecting the privacy of patient information.
Assists providers with physical examinations by preparing treatment/exam room with proper supplies, instruments, and materials, as directed.
Understands the importance of medical and surgical asepsis. Prepares patients for physician’s care with basic instruction and information regarding examination procedures.
Perform vital signs, EKG, phlebotomy, and document in patient’s medical record.
Cleans and/or sterilizes medical instruments while observing principles of sterile technique. Schedules patients for tests and completes required forms for laboratory work.
Maintains accurate and complete patient records and documentation. Orders, stocks, and inventories supplies, and assists in performing clerical duties.
Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.
Ensure completion of required integrative medicine intake questionnaires, lifestyle assessments, and health history forms prior to scheduled appointments.
Review patient intake forms for completeness and follow up with patients regarding missing information.
Coordinate specialty laboratory testing processes, including distribution of testing kits, patient instructions, specimen collection logistics, shipment tracking, and follow-up activities.
Assist patients with specialty laboratory testing requirements and escalate clinical questions to the appropriate provider.
Support operational workflows related to provider-recommended supplement programs and approved supplement ordering platforms.
Provide patients with educational materials and resources related to supplements, specialty testing, wellness programs, and integrative treatment plans as directed by providers.
Maintain inventory of specialty laboratory kits, patient educational materials, supplements, and integrative medicine program supplies.
Serve as a liaison between patients, providers, specialty laboratory vendors, and external wellness service partners to facilitate care coordination and continuity of services.
Coordinate patient appointments and support operational workflows for integrative health services, including acupuncture, massage therapy, nutrition counseling, mindfulness and meditation programs, health coaching, yoga and movement therapy, and lifestyle medicine consultations.
